Laying the Foundations: The Five Bloodlines

Heyo,

Hope you’ve had a fabulous week so far and you’re getting into the groove of 2025?

Previously, we had a somewhat brief introduction to the Age of the Anathema series. This week we’re meeting the characters. More specifically, the five bloodlines/houses that rule the continent of Eutopia.

Schandrof - AlFhairie Royal bloodline

(Colours: white and gold; Symbol: Azrael, the great sword of Okami)

Descendants of the original Schandrof who was chosen by Okami, the god of war, to defeat the Evil Emperor Vladiczar and dispell the taint that sought to destroy the world (Read The Felsai Morgaron for more context). Schandrof was the one who laid the foundations for the current era, including building religions, dividing the continent into kingdoms based on bloodborne abilities, to be ruled over by his most loyal generals.

The Schandrof bloodborne abilities include mind-manipulation.

Schandrofs are principled and extremely powerful, yet they often choose to watch from the sidelines, believing strongly in the value of choice and free will. They are the quiet ones, the ones who prefer to hide themselves away and live peaceful, solitary lives.

Though they prefer not to intervene in the affairs of others, they find it extremely difficult to watch someone they care about suffer when they can do something to help.

Rowanov - Droconian Royal Bloodline

(Colours: Red and Black; Symbol: The Dragon)

Descendants of Rowanov, the White Dragon who fought at Schandrof’s side during the Great War. The pure Rowanov bloodline holds the power of dragon shifting and breeding (giving non-shifters the ability to turn into dragons). Their kingdom is Windornill, Situated west of the continent.

As leaders of a military nation, Rowanovs are forward-thinking, innovative, and proactive. They leave little to chance and plan for the worst possible outcome. They are fiercely patriotic, willing to die at the front for their people and kingdom. They never shy away from a fight, though they are hardly ever known to start one.

Rowanovs are single-minded and would place their cause (usually their kingdom or a loved one) before all else, and like the dragons they are, will defend their chosen treasure to the death.

Kalish - Lepane Royal Bloodline

(Colours: Green and White; Symbol: The Oak Tree)

This family is believed to be scioned by Adrien, son of Vladiczar, who allegedly disappeared soon after the Great War ended. The Kalish bloodline is gifted with the adomin ability: the special ability to know truths and see through falsehoods, which includes sensing lies, magical enchantments and dispelling glamors.

The Kalish are borderline crazy. Tempers as volatile as the depths of the sea, they punch first and ask questions later. Usually, they punch the wrong people and escalate an already bad situation. The Kalish are a loving folk, and despite their bursts of aggression, prefer peace to war. They never miss an opportunity to make merry.

Due to their adomin abilities, they tend to be more skeptical than most, but once they place their trust in a person’s character, there is little that can be done to shake it. The Kalish’s are probably the most innovative of the bloodlines, coming up with clever ways to solve problems, and that’s mostly due to the fact that they’re lazy and would prefer to spend their time in merriment which often leaves them with little time to actually fulfil stipulated tasks.

Brinlee - AlFhairie Royal Bloodline

(Colour: Blue and Gold; Symbol: The White Wolf)

Descended from one of two stewards of Schandrof who took over rulership of Muriel after King Rhode, the 12th century AlFhairie ruler, mysteriously disappeared. These keepers of Northern Muriel are well known for their use of elemental magic, shape-shifting and their ability to commune with animals. The white wolf, though often listaken to be a symbol of Okami, actually represents their reverence for and alliegance to the Silverwolf of Sabas, a young priest of the old world, believed to have been elevated to godhood for his service to the creator.

Most like their Elven ancestors, Brinlees are lovers of nature. They are athletic, creative, and sensitive to the ebb and flow of life. This sometimes makes them come across as whimsical and airy-fairy. Though they hide their emotions well, Brinlees are deep thinkers and even deeper feelers. They do not form attachments easily for fear of getting hurt or being abandoned through the death of a loved one, but to those they do give their hearts, their love is enduring, even when their feelings are not reciprocated.

Telk - AlFhairie Royal Bloodline

(Colour: Burnt Orange and Gold; Symbol: the Fox)

Descended from the second of House Shandrof’s stewards, the Telks are devout worshippers of Fusha, the fox god. They guard the south of Muriel, and are popularly known for their magnificent magical healing abilities, producing historically recognised muradora (magical healers) such as Bartolome Telk, Kauma Ivy, and even Cris Gesiye. Being the most in tune with the flow of ki, when corrupted by greed, power or desperation, they have also been known to fall into the practice of dark magic and the use of kahva (the taint). The Telks are strong, dependable, and loyal to the death, however, when hurt, they will bear a grudge even beyond the grave.

Now you’ve met our five royal bloodlines, which house would you belong to? Hit REPLY or leave a comment to let me know! Don’t worry too much if you don’t fit into any of these five. There are over 70 noble houses (families that can use magic) in Eutopia, so you’re bound to fit in somwhere!

Also, remember to check out the books in the Age of the Anathema series.
